Spring 2016 Sport Administration Program Graduate Interns
As part of their graduation requirements, students work 600 hours for a sport organization in their final semester.
Kate is interning as the assistant soccer coach for the Agnes Scott College soccer team. She assists with all team duties required for coaching a successful Division III soccer team. She is involved in coaching duties on the field, as well as administrative duties in the office that includes organizing and completing all required paperwork and coordinating travel arrangements. Kate also assists with recruiting including calling prospective student-athletes, evaluating high school and junior college players, and maintaining an accurate records and database on the NCAA’s Compliance Assistant program.
Femi is currently an intern with Georgia State University Athletics. His duties include helping setup and coordinate basketball games marketing and entertainment needs. He currently hosts Basketball games promotions. On the day to day he helps out with administrative work, Femi received his Bachelor’s Degree in Public Relations with a minor in hospitality from Georgia State University.
Jason is a Graduate Assistant at LEJ Sports Group. LEJ Sports Group is a sports marketing agency that primarily helps with the administration of national grassroots programs for the MLB, NBA, USOC, and other clients. At the moment, Jason is primarily working with the MLB’s Pitch Hit and Run program. He is responsible for 11 different state markets and the entire Canadian market. Pitch Hit and Run entails nearly 5,000 local events, 200 sectional events, and 600,000 youth participants. Jason is also involved with the NBA’s Jr NBA program, which serves thousands of youth participants across the United States and Canada. Jason has been a part of the LEJ Sports Group team since October 2015.
Walter is working in the athletics department at Pace Academy in Atlanta. He manages Pace Athletics social media accounts, assists with game day operations, coordinates schedules for the high school and middle school teams, and assists with alumni relations. He graduated from Emory University with a B.A. in History in 2010.
Sabrina is interning at Oxford College of Emory University, working as a Graduate Intern for the Center for Healthful Living. Her internship consists of providing support in the following areas: sports marketing, facilities management, protocols and policies, student management, intramurals, open recreation, physical education classes, website maintenance and special events. Sabrina received her Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Alabama in Huntsville in 2012, and is set to receive her Master’s Degree in Sports Administration in May of 2016.
Silvano is currently an intern with Peach State Basketball. His duties include helping setup and coordinate basketball tournaments and camps, assisting with administrative duties, and assist with properly scouting and evaluating players. Silvano received his Bachelor’s Degree in Managerial Science from Georgia State University.
Kerry will be working with the Agnes Scott softball department for her internship. She will be assisting with various task including recruiting, game contracts, emailing, fundraising, and coaching. In addition she will be assisting with creating a budget for a new softball field on campus. Kerry will also work cooperatively with personnel in the athletics department, attend department meetings and activities.
Barry is a Haitian American from Delray Beach, Florida. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. His passion for sports has fueled his education, and longtime goal of opening a community center/gym and starting a youth recreational football league. He currently is an intern with the i-DareU training camp program, which specializes in training young and professional athletes.
Brandon is interning with Georgia State University’s aquatics program within their Department of Recreational Services. He will gain experience in facility management and maintenance, staff evaluation and development and risk management and instruction. After graduation, Brandon plans to work in a collegiate recreation program and is excited to extend his experiences.
Jack is from Coventry, England, currently interning for Southern Soccer Academy in a partnership with Georgia State University. He moved to the United States in 2009 on a college soccer scholarship and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Sports Administration from Reinhardt University in 2013. Jack’s role at Southern Soccer Academy is Director of Recreation, running and managing a program of over 600 participants ranging from 4 – 19 years of age. Additionally, Jack works with a U13 and U17 Select team.
Jess is originally from Atlanta, GA and interning with Miller’s Military Academy serving in the capacities of Athletic Director, coach, and most importantly, teacher. As athletic director and coach, he ensures that the student athletes are not only ready to compete on the field, but are also committed to excellence in the classroom.
A native of Houston, TX, Kelley is interning with Universal Tennis Management as an operations and marketing coordinator. Her duties include site administration, summer camp marketing, and improving overall company efficiency in day-to-day processes. She earned her undergraduate degree in Sport and Fitness Management at Troy University where she was also a four-year letter winner with the Trojan volleyball team. Kelley has previously worked for IMG Learfield Ticket Solutions and Georgia State Athletics where she served as a marketing assistant.
A native of Rockville, Maryland, Chris earned his bachelors degree from Emory University in History, graduating in 2012. While at Emory, Chris was a member of the tennis team and would go on to become Assistant Coach immediately after graduation. His current responsibilities include organizing team trips, organizing and helping to run team practices, recruiting, working individually with members of the team, and various other tasks assigned by the head coach.
Landon graduated from the University of Mississippi in 2014 with a degree in Broadcast Journalism and African American studies. Landon now is a graduate assistant for the marketing department within Georgia State Athletics where he is the marketing coordinator for court volleyball, beach volleyball and women’s basketball. Landon is a native of Athens, Georgia and alum of Athens Academy class of 2009.
Janessa is from Durham, North Carolina and is currently an intern for LEJ Sports Group. LEJ Sports is a full service marketing and event management agency with a specialty in administering national youth grassroots programs for the MLB, NBA, USOC and other clients. Her role includes managing 11 state markets that host events for the MLB Pitch Hit and Run program and assist with other program needs such as the Jr. NBA and Gatorade Training Center. Janessa also tutors and mentors the men’s basketball team at Georgia State. Janessa graduated from Hampton University in 2012 with a B.S. is Sport Management and a minor in Marketing. She currently serves as the President of the Sport Management Administration Club and hopes to work in Community Relations for professional sports or in Student Athlete Development on the collegiate level.
Jaterra is from Lithia Springs, Georgia and currently works as a Graduate Assistant in the Agnes Scott College Athletic Department with the Women’s Basketball Program. She graduated from Belmont Abbey College in 2014 earning her degree in Sport Management with a minor in both Business Management and Psychology. Jaterra assists with preparations for practices and games. She is responsible for organizing, recruiting and mailing lists, and contacting prospective student-athletes.
Ariana is from West Palm Beach, Florida and is currently working as a Graduate Assistant in the Georgia State Athletics Department with the Women’s Basketball Program. She graduated from East Carolina University in 2014 after exhausting her five years of eligibility as a student-athlete on the women’s basketball team. She assists with all aspects of the women’s basketball program including but not limited to video exchange, equipment, day-to-day operations and game day preparation.
Mike is a Sports Product Development Intern at Windsor Management, Inc. in Dallas, Texas. He assists with the day-to-day development of the sports nutrition drink, such as identifying raw materials, reviewing legislation, monitoring clinical studies, gathering and analyzing data, product positioning, and budgeting. Mike was born in Bucharest, Romania and moved to Louisiana in 1995. Mike received his undergraduate degree in Sport Management from the Louisiana State University in 2014.
Taylor is participating in the Student Associate Program at Madison Square Garden, designed to create real, valuable opportunities for students to learn, grow and explore the company as a whole and gain valuable experience to use throughout her career. While participating in this program, she will work a variety of events with a diverse group of people from different sport backgrounds. She feels fortunate to be able to continue for another semester with the New York Knicks and the World’s Most Famous Arena.
Barbora is from the Czech Republic and currently works as an intern with Emory University’s Athletic Department with the Women’s Tennis Program. She assists with coaching, traveling, recruiting, and teaching tennis clinics.
Kayla is an intern with Georgia State University Athletics in the department of Student-Athlete Development and Life Skills. She assists the Assistant Director of Student-Athlete Development and Life Skills with the implementation of programs geared to help student-athletes after their collegiate career is completed. She also is the Graduate Assistant for marketing and events with Emory University Athletics. Kayla is a native of Daytona Beach, Florida and received her undergraduate degree in Sport Management from the University of Florida in 2013.
Rishawn is working with the Georgia State University Student-Athlete Development Department as an assistant academic advisor, mentor, and assistant to the tutor and life-skills coordinators. Georgia State’s Student-Athlete Development department provides Georgia State student-athletes with the personal tools and resources necessary to develop the total person, in addition to enhancing their success on the playing field. A native of Queens, N.Y., Rishawn attended Salisbury University in Salisbury, MD and graduated with a B.S. in Exercise Science. He was a letterman with the Salisbury University track and field team, Resident Assistant to Housing and Residence Life, and also is a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity. Upon graduation, Rishawn plans to either stay within collegiate athletics with Student-Athlete Development or work for USA track and field in their youth programs or International and Team Championships Department.
Ronald was born and raised in the U.S. Virgin Islands. He moved to Georgia in the summer of 2007. Ronald graduated from Georgia State University in 2014, with a B.B.A. in Marketing and is currently interning with Georgia State Sports Marketing, working with spring sports.
Shekia is the Graduate Assistant for the Sports Administration Program at Georgia State University and is currently completing her internship at Elite Talent Football Academy, working as a social media assistant. Her internship consists of: maintaining the program’s social media platforms, creating monthly social media calendars, providing content, assisting with all Adidas Football camps, educating youth with media training, website maintenance, and special events. Shekia, originally from Miami, Florida, received her Bachelor’s Degree in English with a concentration in Editing, Writing, & Media from Florida State University in 2014. Upon graduation, she hopes to enter the professional world of sports communication working either for a television network or professional sports.
Lindsay is from Peachtree City, Georgia and currently works as an intern at The Galloway School. She graduated from Berry College with a degree in psychology. In addition to her duties as an intern, she is also responsible for streaming Galloway varsity basketball games live online via the NFHS network. She hopes to continue developing this initiative by recruiting Galloway students who are interested in broadcasting, media coverage, and sport promotion to learn the NFHS system and eventually manage broadcasts on their own.
Tiye-Saran is interning with Georgia State Football. She will provide administrative support in operations and recruiting.
Michael is working with the Osborne High School athletic programs, gaining knowledge on scheduling, scouting, and developing new marketing plans for the program. In addition, to his duties he also serves as an assistant coach of the cross country, track, and men’s basketball team. He graduated from Alabama State University in 2012 with a B.S. in Business Management. Prior to graduation, he also worked with the business athletic director as the business compliance intern.
Simone is from Marietta, GA and currently interns at The Galloway School in their athletic department. Simone graduated from Loyola University in Maryland with a bachelors degree in Communications and Marketing. At The Galloway School Simone assists with game operations, coaching, communication, and administrative duties.
Ben is the Interim Head Strength and Conditioning Coach at Emory University responsible for assisting in the coaching of the varsity athletic teams. The job requires him to work Monday through Friday and is expected to attend some athletic events. Some of his responsibilities include writing workouts for selected teams, conditioning athletes, maintain equipment, and disinfect weight room. He will also be required to have weekly meetings with coaches about their teams and what they can do to improve the athletes’ performance.
Bailey is from Spartanburg, South Carolina and is currently an intern for the Agnes Scott College Volleyball team, where she is a volleyball coach. She graduated from Erskine College in 2014 with a B.S. in Physical Education. At Erskine Bailey played on the softball and volleyball team during her four years. She currently serves as the Vice President of the Sports Management and Administration Club (SMAC).
Tiara is interning at PrimeSport as a Hospitality Intern. She currently assists with coordinating logistics with contractors, venues, caterers, partners and transportation. In addition to logistics, she negotiates contracts and agreements with arenas, stadiums, and convention centers to ensure all institutional requirements are met. While in this position, she will continue to actively seek out new vendors and partners to keep our events fresh and innovative.
As a marketing intern with Georgia Tech Athletics, Hilary will begin and conclude her time with the agency that she began as a freshman at Georgia Tech. Currently, she is individually responsible for the marketing, promotions and communications plans for GT volleyball and baseball. In addition to her time spent as a Graduate Assistant, she will build upon my duties through this internship to complete operational responsibilities at football, volleyball, basketball and baseball events. Hilary will also be in charge of the newly re-launched Junior Jackets Kids Club, which involves communication to several hundred members, coordinating and running club events in conjunction with GT athletics, and actively marketing and recruiting new members. In addition, she will have one-off projects and assist with managing a group of undergraduate interns.
Patrick is an intern for Georgia State Athletics’ Department of Development and the Panther Athletic Club. He is responsible for processing Panther Athletic Club and restricted athletic gifts through the GSU Foundation, managing Panther Athletic Club social media accounts, creating and sending acknowledgement letters and birthday cards to PAC members, and assisting at special events such as the GSU Football Kickoff Luncheon and PAC Golf Tournament. The purpose of the Panther Athletic Club is to raise support for Georgia State Athletics scholarships and defray the $5.7 million cost of student-athlete scholarships the athletics department spends annually. In addition, the Panther Athletic Club seeks to generate additional and directed operational support to various sports, athletic facilities, women’s sports, and excellence funds.
